An account of the resource
This collection pairs written scholarship with a corresponding collection of audiovisual resources to support the interdisciplinary study of dance and human culture. The intent is to provide students, researchers, educators, as well as the general public with access to key scholarly and philosophical writings by anthropologist of dance Dr. Joann W. Description
Content description from Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Town_(film)) :
On the Town is a 1949 Technicolor musical film with music by Leonard Bernstein and Roger Edens and book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. It is an adaptation of the Broadway stage musical of the same name produced in 1944 (which itself is an adaptation of the Jerome Robbins ballet entitled Fancy Free which was also produced in 1944), although many changes in script and score were made from the original stage version; for instance, most of Bernstein's music was dropped in favor of new songs by Edens, who disliked the majority of the Bernstein score for being too complex and too operatic. This caused Bernstein to boycott the film.
The film was directed by Gene Kelly, who also choreographed, and Stanley Donen in their directorial debut, and stars Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Betty Garrett, and Ann Miller, and features Jules Munshin and Vera-Ellen. It was a product of the Arthur Freed unit at MGM, and is notable for its combination of studio and location filming, as a result of Gene Kelly's insistence that some scenes be shot in New York City, including at the American Museum of Natural History, the Brooklyn Bridge, and Rockefeller Center.

Description
Content description from IMDB (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0035320):
Miss Winters is a dancer with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and is asked to secretly transport a prototype magnetic mine to Puerto Rico. She thinks that she is working for the US Government, but fails to see why she would be involved. The enemy agents got the plan from a pulp novel written by Kibble, who is also on the ship and falls for her. But then she overhears his new novel and believes that he is talking about her. So when they leave the boat, she ignores him, but somehow, the bags get switched and he gets the magnetic mine - which she must later retrieve. It is mainly a Tommy Dorsey showcase with Sinatra singing - Powell dancing - and a small plot.

Producer Gordon Miller (George Murphy) and his profligate actors are staying at a New York City hotel, where they're living the high life as they plan to mount a stage show. Alas, they have no money to pay their bills, and hotel boss Wagner (Adolphe Menjou) will banish them unless he gets paid. Joining the parade of those about to be bilked by Miller is Glenn Russell (Frank Sinatra), a playwright whose stellar singing just might be enough to right the fortunes of all involved.
