This series documents the historical and cultural traditions of China, showing how attitudes in China today are shaped not only by the doctrines of Marx and Mao but also by ancient beliefs and traditions and by the living memories of recent cataclysmic events. Over four fifths of China's 1000 million inhabitants are peasants. This program visits a rural village to find out how they live. Follows the day to day life of one village family and focuses on the local Party secretary.
