Description
An account of the resource
This collection pairs written scholarship with a corresponding collection of audiovisual resources to support the interdisciplinary study of dance and human culture. The intent is to provide students, researchers, educators, as well as the general public with access to key scholarly and philosophical writings by anthropologist of dance Dr. Joann W. Kealiinohomoku (1930-2015) in coordination with an ecclectic assortment of audiovisual materials most of which Kealiinohomoku recorded off air between 1970-2010.

Over this 40-year period, Kealiinohomoku, an early adopter of video technology, began recording on Beta tapes, later transitioning to VHS tapes. YouTube's Internet domain name was not activated until 2005; therefore, this audiovisual collection reflects a historical pre-YouTube view of the world.

Kealiinohomoku's holistic approach and broad anthropological perspectives invite greater understanding of dance as a human universal. The wide-ranging audiovisual content reflects Kealiinohomoku's particular research interests, popular culture of the era, and dance phenomena from a variety of cultures. It invites open-minded exploration and reflection on changes in scholarship and understanding.

To help researchers continue their search for audiovisual resources of interest, descriptive metadata is provided for every item, even when no video link has yet been located. Description
Content description from WorldCat (https://www.worldcat.org/title/waiting-for-the-big-bang/oclc/921961091):
Rabaul, New Britain is sitting on a time bomb. It's hard for the Tolai inhabitants to cope with the constant threat of volcanic eruption as they wait and prepare for the next big one. The last time this happened was between 1937 and 1942, when an estimated 500 people died. Historical footage showing the luxuriant lifestyle of German colonialists pre World War II and then the occupation of the Japanese army, as well as contemporary scenes of the easygoing Tolai lifestyle is interspersed with full-blown evacuation exercises and scientific excursions into the craters of active volcanoes. Ten years after Waiting for the Big Bang was made, two active vents-;Tavurvur and Vulcan-;erupted in 1994 with cataclysmic effect. The township of Rabaul was completely buried under a deep layer of thick brown volcanic silt. The citizens were forced to abandon their town and move to Kokopo 20 kilometres away.

Description
Content description from WorldCat (https://www.worldcat.org/title/east-of-krakatoa/oclc/19962434):
The title, Ring of Fire, refers to the islands of Indonesia that form a chain of active volcanoes arcing down and around into the Pacific. In Java, the Blairs descend from the crater of a new volcano, "Child of Krakatoa", to a world of medieval courts, puppet plays, forgers of magical swords, healers with supernatural powers and whole communities ruled by spirits. Then in Bali they meet with sages, and the Toraja people of the Celebes highlands, a tribe that believes its ancestors came from the stars in sky ships.
