About to perform for the gala opening of its 25th year, the New York City. Ballet was shut down last, night by the first strike of its dancers in the company's history. This is the fourth major strike against a cultural institution in the city this fall.
Ticket holders to the ballet were turned away at the doors of the New York State Theater in Lincoln Center and management said that all future performances were canceled until the dancers returned.
