Part of a documentary series which looks at the myths and the realities of Africa and its history. This program points out that the kings and queens of old Africa left behind magnificent reminders of their majesty and power - the brass sculptures of the ancient kingdoms of Ife and Benin in Nigeria, the wood carvings from the old empire of Oyo - wonders from the past which Europeans refused to believe had been fashioned by Africans when they first saw them. Explores the ways in which African kingdoms functioned.
