The five Arab countries on the Persian Gulf - Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates - have emerged as some of the richest countries in the world. ... Episode 1, 'Kings and pirates,' reviews the exotic 800 year history of commerce, colonialism, and culture of the region. Episode 2, 'The petrodollar coast,' exposes the lightning-like development that oil revenues created in the ancient kingdoms that had not changed for centuries. Episode 3, 'A sea of conflict,' examines the position that these countries now occupy in world politics, economics, and defense.
