Description
Content description from New York Times Archives (https://www.nytimes.com/1982/01/16/theater/dance-harlem-troupe-performs-streetcar.html) :
"Lowell Smith, is a black Stanley Kowalski who dances his heart away in a sensationally strong performance i n the Dance Theater of Harlem's revival of Valerie Bettis's ballet version of ''A Streetcar Named Desire.''
Miss Bettis's well-known treatment of Tennessee Williams's play does not, however, stand up so consistently. At its company premiere with the Dance Theater of Harlem Thursday night at the City Center, it had all the markings of a 1950's period piece. It also had some thoroughly gripping moments to which the company's dancers took with obvious relish and dynamic flair."
