Part of a series of seven programs looking at countries as diverse as Japan, Samoa, The Philippines, Korea, Hawaii and Papua New Guinea and gives an insight into the forces that are shaping the modern face of the pacific region. This episode looks at the military and naval build-ups in the region which is of huge strategic importance to the superpowers. Examines the implications of this foreign presence (USA & U.S.S.R.) and the shift in the cultural perspectives of the local people.
